Shades of Summer! Some of my top dress picks for the season!

A few of my favourite things for Summer, and without sounding too much like Julie Andrews right now (sadly no whiskers on kittens for this post, maybe later?) I’ll talk you though some of my favourite silhouettes I’ve been picking up, or lusting after lately.

First pick is a sleeveless denim dress. Every girl should own a quality denim dress, one that fits where it should and conceals what it needs to. Topshop have a variety on the go at the mo’ that I like, but they’re pretty standard now in most clothing shops, so if Topshop are on the upper side of the budget, there is always trusty H&M and Primark.

Team this with some tan wedges, strappy or otherwise depending on your perfernce, I love wedges because my body hates heels, and standing proudly at just five foot, I need all the help I can get. The tan will go well with just about any dress, and it’s a softer alternative to plain black which with some outfits can come across as a little harsh, and we don’t want harsh for Summer, do we? No, we want … floaty and soft and sweet. At least I do, it helps if ‘comfort’ fits the bill too, right?

Next on the little list is the sweetheart cutout dress, this one in coral for that bright, cheerful feel on a sunny day, just be careful about that pesky sun burn, otherwise you’ll end up with a sunburn the shape of the cut out (!!!) Not a good look, but team the mini dress with some flat sandals (again I’ve softened the look with tan, but if you’re adventurous, go for anything you fancy!) It’s great in that it can be dressed up with a simple pair of heels, taking you from the beach, to the bar ;)

Next up we have one of my personal staples. The navy and white stripe Sundress, I love navy, LOVE it. Anything nautical too hits the spot, this teamed with some red shoes (if you’re feeling brave, personally I wouldn’t if it was daytime, but for night, all bets are off really), or sandals, some well placed day time red polish, and we have contrasting colours without it becoming too over powering.

The ever popular Maxi Dress is next on the list, so many of my friends love a good old maxi, but being a leprechaun, I tend to steer clear of them in general (or get the tailored, which is hilarious, but it works!) I find this blush-coral colour is really flattering on most skin tones, from deathly pale Irish girls like myself, to the tan olive skin tones of my friends. The strapless dress is great if you want to tan those shoulders, and the dress itself is another that can take you easily from day to night!

Peplum, peplum, it is EVERYWHERE isn’t it? I think it is, it’s all I see now when I hit the shops, and at first I will admit to being skeptical. Really, they’re giving us something fitted that makes our hips BIGGER? But, it’s genius, if you’re a girl with hips already it really is fantastic, because it conceals them all while showing them off in the best possible way for your figure! And, if you’re working with a little less hip action it works great for you too, in that it gives you that curve without taking away from the rest of your figure to do so. Perfection. I chose this Jade green, as it gives that sophisticated edge, but with still a bright and cheerful feel to it!

Summer for me is accessorize heaven, and with the reinvention of the flattering Cat eye sunnies on the go, I certainly love it. I usually go with some classic Ray bans, but I find the cat eye trend so adorable, and it’s a nice alternative to the other classic styles out there, and they too are flattering to most face shapes, so channel a little inner Mad Men and slip back in time!
